Giuseppe Montesano is well known for his engaging approach and reliability in every repertoire. He gained recognition for his performances of La Bohème and Le Nozze di Figaro at Theater Basel (Switzerland) and for the live recording of Spontini’s rare opera Le Metamorfosi di Pasquale (Dynamic/Naxos 2019).
In recent years, he has conducted at renowned venues and festivals, including the Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli, Wexford Opera Festival, Teatro delle Muse, and Teatro Pergolesi. He has also been a regular guest of the Orchestra Toscanini di Parma.
Born in Turin, Italy, he studied piano, composition, and choral conducting at his hometown conservatory before specializing in orchestral conducting in Vienna and Milan. After completing his studies, he became assistant conductor to Philippe Jordan at the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and to Walter Kobera at the Neue Oper Wien, where he worked extensively on contemporary music.
Beyond his conducting career, Giuseppe Montesano is a passionate educator. He teaches orchestral conducting at the prestigious Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany, and since 2018, he has been organizing masterclasses that provide young conductors with invaluable hands-on experience and mentorship.
He has won multiple prizes at national and international festivals and competitions in both choral and orchestral conducting and was a scholarship holder of the distinguished “Associazione per la Musica De Sono”.
An eclectic mind, he is also a certified coach specializing in the S.F.E.R.A. method and teaches functional breathing techniques. Outside of music, he has a deep passion for black-and-white photography and the dynamic world of finance and trading.
Giuseppe Montesano is married and has a wonderful son.
